2-day 7 th Gem and Jewellery show gets underway QUETTA Mar 5 (PPI): Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) organized yet another glittering Gem Bazaar in Quetta on 5th and 6th March 2011 at its Gem Exchange in Quetta. This was the 7th Gem Bazaar which was inaugurated by Ms. Fahmida Kousar Jamali (President Women Chamber Baluchistan). There were more than 40 exhibitors who participated in the Gem Bazaar. Five exhibitors participated from Peshawar. The leg traffic was enormous especially females and families who were keenly interested in the variety of the display. The exhibitors developed a phenomenal business in the Gem Bazaar and created long term business links with the buyers and also explored potential for exports. Gem Bazaars in Quetta provide an excellent platform to the buyers and sellers of Baluchistan and from other parts of the country to gather under a single roof and engage in trade. This sort of an opportunity is what PGJDC has been providing to the gems and jewellery industry as part of its endeavor to develop the gemstone sector and increase foreign exchange through exports. The Chief Executive, Mr. Bashir Ahmed Abbasi says, “PGJDC has been instrumental in providing support to those who need platform to flourish their business in gems and jewellery. Gem Bazaars are exactly doing the same thing. They are mobilizing the business of gemstones in the regions including Quetta, Peshawar, Northern Areas, etc. by creating an impact through this activity.” There was a huge variety of gemstones and mineral specimens displayed during the Gem Bazaar. These included precious and semi-precious gemstones including Ruby, Emerald, Peridot, Tourmaline, Acquamarine, Garnett, Kunzite, Quartz, etc. During the Gem Bazaar, the Gemstone Identification Laboratory in the Gem Exchange provided full support to the traders and buyers in testing stones free of cost. The Gem Lab is a state of the art facility with latest and modern technology and equipments for the purpose of testing and providing reports on gemstones. This facility enables the traders and buyers to ascertain right value and worth of the stones in trade. PGJDC, which has been established under the Ministry of Industries and Production, Government of Pakistan, however over the last three years has been committed to the development of the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan from mine to market in the areas of skill development, technology up-gradation and marketing/branding. The idea of organizing Gem Bazaars in different cities including Quetta is to enhance value chain productivity and provide a stable platform for the buyers and sellers of the gemstones and mineral specimens under one roof. This is what makes Gem Bazaar a unique concept in the country.
