Customs seize 5.5 metric tonnes of Hashish near Ormara
GWADAR: Gwadar Customs seized huge quantity of Charas in a successful raid near Ormara.
Customs sources said here Saturday that on the night of Oct 23, Customs team headed by Deputy Collector Gwadar Jamil Ahmad Baloch while chasing a secret information signalled a suspected 6 wheeler truck near Ormara. Secret information said that narcotics smugglers had adopted new modus operandi for drug trafficking that they would bring big haul from upcountry to coastal belt of Mekran for onward smuggling to Middle East. Instead the driver accelerated his truck and abandoned it at some distance near Village Hud.
Truck was loaded with Chinese garlic. However when a thorough search was conducted, bags of fine quality hashish in wet condition wrapped delicately with plastic papers/sheets was found hidden beneath the garlic bags. It weighed 5.5 metric tonnes.
It is note worthy that this is probably the biggest seizure of narcotics by Customs Collectorate Gwadar or any other drug enforcement agency in the area in the last few years.
