Two killed, 12 injured as bomb explodes in busy city area QUETTA: Two persons were killed and eleven others injured some of them seriously, in a bomb blast near Liaquat ladies Park and district Nazim office here on Monday, informed the official sources. Police sources said that an explosive device, weighing around 10 kilogram, planted in a parked Suzuki car went off with a big bang around 1:05 pm outside the premises of office of the Nazim city district government, a few yards away from the district court complex, killing two persons instantly. The blast was so powerful that it was heard several miles away and people were seen running here and there in search of safety. An eye-witness told that “I heard an ear-splitting boom and then saw blood-stained injured people lying all around”, adding that people were also seen running for safety. Another witness added that thick black smoke blanketed the scene after the explosion. The powerful blast claimed the lives of two persons and injured some 11 others, said DIG Police Muhammad Akbar while talking to the media persons on the site of the blast. Soon after the blast, the other vehicles parked in the parking area caught fire. Consequently, five vehicles and four auto rickshaws caught fire and damaged badly. The thud of the explosion shattered windowpanes of nearby buildings. The fire fighters, on being informed, reached the spot and put off the fire. Edhi ambulances reached the spot and ferried the injured to the city’s Civil Hospital, the sources said. The emergency had been declared in the hospital. Soon after the blast personnel of law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area, and a Bomb Disposal Squad team examined the Suzuki car to ascertain the type of explosives. The identification of the deceased is yet to be made but it is believed that one of them is a rickshaw driver while another is pedestrian, said DIG Police. He asserted that the police and law enforcement agencies would trace out the owner of the vehicle from chases number of the vehicle. Moving scenes were witnessed at the hospital, when the people knew about the blast. Hundreds of relatives thronged the Kasi Casualty Ward of the Civil Hospital. Additional police force was called to control the crowd. The injured were shifted to civil hospital for medical treatment where the conditions of some of them are stated to be precarious, hospital sources told. The injured are identified as: Fakhara Bibi, Muhammad Tahir, Ali Nawaz, William, Umair, Gul Nawaz, Haji Muhammad Akram, Pervez Akhtar, Haji Ali Muhammad, Hameedullah, Muhammad Imran and Abdul Ghafar. Nobody claimed responsibility for the blast till our going to the press. Police registered the case against unknown miscreants. The police officials told that two investigation teams of Quetta police and the Crimes Investigation Department (CID) had been constituted to probe into the blast. Further investigations are in progress. Meanwhile, in their separate messages, issued here, the Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani strongly condemned the bomb blast incident and expressed their grief over the deaths caused by the blast. The Governor in his message warned that the culprits involved in the blast would not be speared at any cost. Meanwhile, security agencies were put on high alert across the city, following the blast. Besides, security in main bazaars and markets in the city has also been intensified.
