DSP, three dacoits killed, Mosque Imam among 30 suspects arrested in Karachi

KARACHI, Sep 14 (INP): A police officer was killed when unknown assailants opened fire at him in Model Colony area of Karachi on Saturday.

According to police sources, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mumtaz Ali Shah was leaving for work when two unidentified armed attackers opened fire on him in Model Colony near his house.

He was injured and rushed to hospital but he succumbed to injuries before reaching the hospital. Police told that DSP Mumtaz Ali Shah was deployed at the Landhi jail.

Meanwhile at least three dacoits were killed in an alleged police encounter in Sector III of North Karachi.

According to details, the encounter took place when six dacoits barged into a house for robbery and the residents of the area promptly informed the police. As a result three dacoits were killed and three others managed to flee.

Moreover Rangers personnel arrested 30 suspects including extortionists and other criminals during targeted operation in various areas of Karachi.

Sindh Rangers’ spokesman said the targeted action was carried out in Sindbad Goth, Lasi Goth, Mekasa apartment, Pakhtunabad and near Lasbela Chowrangi. The paramilitary force also recovered arms from their possession.

Those arrested included extortionists and political activists.
Meanwhile in a joint action, Rangers and police arrested an Imam of the mosque and seven criminals and recovered arms from their custody in Garden area.

The Imam of the mosque was held for allegedly having contacts with the banned outfit.
Also, targeted search operation was conducted in Mohammadabad area of Gulbahar during which entry and exit points of the area were sealed. However, no arrest was made during the raids.
