MPAs, health officials, civil society: Health facilities are inadequate in Balochistan

QUETTA: The members of provincial assembly, health experts and representatives of the civil society have termed the health facilities in the province inadequate and stressed the need to pay wholehearted attention towards the same so as to bring improvement in it.
They were addressing a seminar on the community health committee monitoring and health facilities arranged by an NGO, Center for Peace and Development (CPD) here at a local hotel, the other day.
The theme of the seminar was” community health committee monitoring toolkits, community led monitoring mechanism.”
The seminar was held under the Empowering clients and sensitizing providers to increase uptake of maternal and neonatal health care services: Designs of a Social Accountability Model for implementation in Balochistan.
The MPAs Mir Ghulam Dastagir Badini and Dr. Shama Ishaq Baloch, deputy Secretary Health, Muhammad Ilyas, Director Health, Dad Muhammad Kakar, Executive Director of the CDP, Nasarullah Khan, Kabir Khan and others addressed the seminar.
They said that there is a dire need to take steps for provision of better health facilities in the province particularly in its remote areas so that the people may benefit from the same there.
The Executive Director of CPD briefed the participants of the seminar on state of health affairs in the province.
He told that the increased maternal mortality rate in Balochistan is a matter of great concern. He said that we have to play our due role in prevention of the issue. He said that majority of the people are leading life below the poverty line while 83 percent women are uneducated. Over 29 percent people are deprived of the facility of electricity, he pointed out further.
The MPA Mir Ghulam Dastagir Badini on the occasion spoke at length about the health situation in Noshki district.
He said that the health facilities are lacking in Noshki in the present modern era. The doctors as well as the health staff is not available in the hospitals on one hand while there is also shortage of medicines on the other hand, Badini maintained.
Dr. Shama Ishaq regretfully pointed out that the maternal mortality rate is highest in the country, which is a matter of great concern.
She stressed the need to create awareness among the general public particularly the women regarding their health issues.
The MPA belonging to National Party, Dr. Shama also mentioned that the present government has paid special attention on the health and education sectors in view of their importance.
She appreciated the CPD’s role for the cause of awareness about the health issues.
