Canadian High Commissioner meets Governor

QUETTA Apr 24 (PPI): Decrease in demand for drugs and its use would remarkably minimize transportation of narcotics.
This was stated by Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai while speaking to High Commissioner of Canada Ms Heather Cruden here Friday.
Country Representative UNODC Cesar Guedes, Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani, Additional Collector Customs Raza Baloch and others were also present.
Governor said Balochistan borders are long and are connected with two countries Iran and Afghanistan. Therefore checking smuggling of narcotics is quite difficult. However government was mobilizing all its resources in this regard and efforts were underway for stopping use of and smuggling of narcotics. He said to achieve the objectives we need modern technology. He thanked UNODC for its cooperation in this direction and said besides ending menace of narcotics we are also taking measures for the treatment of drug addicts.
He said government has succeeded in elimination narcotics corps and arresting drug pushers.
He said shortage e f water in the province was creating negative impacts on agriculture, orchards and livestock. It is necessary rain water should be preserved by building new big and small dams which is a challenge.
Governor said there is need for new measures to overcome drop outs at the educational institutions and teachers training. He said Balochistan population is small and scattered and access to it is difficult.
He hoped that with performance of newly elected representatives of local bodies people?s problems would be resolved at their doorsteps.
Governor also hosted luncheon in honour of Canadian High Commissioner and her delegation.
