Sincere efforts needed for beautification of Quetta city

QUETTA: The Chief Secretary Balochistan, Saifullah Chattha has underlined the need to make sincere efforts for beautification of Quetta city and resolving the issues being faced by the people.
He was chairing a meeting about shifting of the bus terminals to Hazar Ganji here the other day. The Additional Chief (Development), Naseebullah Khan Bazai, Mayor Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, Dr. Kalimullah Khan, Secretary Finance Department, Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani, Secretary Transport, Muhammad Khalid Baloch, Commissioner Quetta Division, Kambar Dashti, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abdul Razzaq Cheema, Secretary Quetta Development Authority (QDA), Imran Zarkoon, leaders of different transport unions including Mir Hikmat Lehri, Malik Yasin Kakar, Abdullah Kurd, Jumma Khan Badini, Nasarullah Kakar, besides other concerned persons.
On the occasion, the Commissioner Quetta said that all the coaches companies are being shifted to Hazar Ganji in view of the government’s decision. All the necessary facilities would be provided to the transporters in Hazar Ganji to facilitate them, maintaining he assured.
It is responsibility of the government to provide facilities to the transporters and passengers in Hazar Ganji, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, the transporters’ leaders said that they had been given assurance regarding shifting of the terminal and its building for last several years, but implementation could not be done in this regard, they added.
They said that if a modern type terminal is built there and all the transport companies are shifted there without any discrimination then there would be no issue for them to shift there, they assured.
The Chief Secretary directed to the QDA high ups to prepare a summary regarding construction of the bus terminals in Hazar Ganji so as to start work on it on an emergent basis after getting approval from the Chief Minister.
A committee would also be constituted for construction of the terminal with approval of the Chief Minister, he mentioned.
The committee would comprise Chairman QDA, Mayor Quetta and representatives of the transporters. The recommendations for immediate construction of the terminal as well as solution of the problems in this regard would be mandate of the committee.
The Chief Secretary referring the issues being faced by Quetta city stressed that the wholehearted cooperation of the people is needed to resolve the emerging civic issues in Quetta including drinking water, traffic and repair of roads, etc/
Meanwhile, the transporters took up the issue of extortion from certain elements on the Quetta-Makran route and sought an action to resolve it.
On that the Chief Minister directed to the concerned authorities to take action against those involved in extortion and take them to task.
