QUETTA: A ceremony marking the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Day was held here at the Saqiba Girls College.
Principal of the College, Professor Firdous Anwar Qazi presided over the function. The lecturers and students of the College attended the ceremony.
Professor Firdous Anwar Qazi delivered a key-note lecture on the Poet of the East besides paying glowing tributes to the life and works of Allama Iqbal on his 135th birth anniversary. She covered different aspects of life and poetry of Allama Iqbal in her lecture.
She said that Allama Iqbal is recognized as the poet of East, but his great contribution is deep into the historical and philosophical realms and thought developments of humanity without any discrimination, although he directly addresses the Muslims.
She said that Allama Iqbal was the pride of Urdu literature for his fair approach and unique philosophy. Speaking on the theme of Iqbal’s concept of self-esteem, she mentioned that the idea of Khudi (I-amness) is central to Iqbal’s system of thought
The standards of self-worth are the hallmark and centre point of poetry of Iqbal, Professor Qazi maintained.
Lauding Iqbal’s poetry, she said it was full of lofty ideals, including the great idea of “self-esteem” that gave man self-confidence, self-pride and self awareness. Iqbal wanted Muslims to be aware of their hidden talents and qualities and to use those qualities to make progress and reach the heights of glory, she added.
She said, Iqbal used the metaphor of eagle, whose nature was to fly high and up and up, as a symbol of struggle determination in his poetry in order to create courage, fortitude and spirit of contend in Muslims. Iqbal had urged the Muslims to raise their self-esteem in order to achieve God’s will, she added.
Ms. Iqra Khalilm, Ms. Maria Syed and others shared her views about personality of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and said that he was a great philosopher, who awakened the entire Muslims of the sub-continent and gave them idea to get a separate homeland for them.
They also said that Allama Iqbal always wanted the youth get a high standard.
They said that Allama explained the secret, power, attributes, standard, the purpose and the destiny of a human in the philosophy of "Khudi".
Referring the concept of Shaheen (falcon), they said that Iqbal said a falcon never feel tired in the air and if a human develop a power like that, he will never be scared of difficulties and hurdles on his journey of glory.
