3-day anti polio drive gets underway

QUETTA Feb 27 (PPI): Three day anti polio drive commenced in 16 districts of Balochistan Monday. Around 1.7 million children below five years of age would be vaccinated against crippling polio virus during campaign.

These districts are Chagai, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdullah, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Loralai, Mastung, Nasirabad, Noshki, Pishin, Sherani, Quetta and Zhob.

Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan Syed Faisal Ahmed said in pursuit of war against polio virus, three days’ anti-polio campaign in 16 districts of the province including the high-risk areas, “460 fixed and 530 transit points had been established where 6540 polio workers will perform their duties to vaccinate 1737264 children in 376 Union Councils of 16 districts of Balochistan,” he added.

He for curbing the transmission of polio virus at transit points, they had been focusing on Afghan Refugees camps where children would be administrated with polio vaccine.

He said “Frontier Corps and Pakistan Army would be deployed in sensitive areas of the province during anti-polio drive,’ he added.

He urged the media and religious scholars to play their role and encourage parents to administrate their children with polio drops.
