PM to open first phase of Kachhi Canal today

SIBI Sep 13 (PPI): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will formally open first phase of Kachhi Canal in Dera bugti Thursday. He would also address a public meeting in Sui.
According to details Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is due to visit Dera Bugti on a day’s visit today. He would be accorded warm welcome upon arrival. Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Commissioner Sibi Dr Muhammad Saeed Jamali, Commissioner Nasirabad and others would receive him.
He would formally inaugurate first phase of Kachhi Canal. The project was undertaken in 2002.Filling of 363 kilometre canal had started from Head regulator at Taunsa Barrage. Of this, 351 Km of canal are pucca. First phase of the project has been completed at a cost of Rupees 80 billion.
Canal originates from Taunsa Barrage and ends at Dera bugti in Balochistan. This project occupies key position in water infrastructure and development of agriculture in Balochistan. It is also important for economic development of the province. It would irrigate 72 thousand acres of land in Dera Bugti.
Preparations for inauguration of Kachhi canal and public meeting in Sui have been finalized.
