QUETTA Feb 19 (PPI): Despite non cooperation of provincial government and hurdles from Bureaucracy and limited sources Metropolitan Corporation was striving for cleanliness and devilment of Quetta City. A city for 35 souls has now 3.5 million people causing difficulties. Committee consisting of local bodies representatives constituted could not work. A separate directorate to overcome problems and separate section for building code is needed.
These views were expressed by Mayor Quetta Dr Kaleemullah while addressing closing session of meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Mayor Yunus Baloch here Monday.
An agenda with 12 suggestions for improving Quetta city and resolving problems of local bodies representatives was also presented at the meeting but it did not come up for discussion. Meeting would be held Tuesday.
Mayor said that he has met three Chief Ministers for seeking authority for local bodies but elected representatives were not cooperating with him. Bureaucracy was also another hurdled in the way. He said committees of local bodies representatives also could not work and failed. Quetta city formed for 35 souls has now 3.5 million souls. We have no resources to lifting garbage but we were still cleaning the city. He said to overcome problems of city there is need of complete directorate but we were getting this done by clerks and some officers. For implementation of building code there is need for separate section. It is feared that government was completing its tenure. He said he was not fond of sticking to chair but he was striving to secure people’s interests.
Deputy Mayor Yunus Baloch said that we are elected representatives of people and resolving their problems if our responsibility. Despite non cooperation of provincial government we would go to them to seek their assistance. He called upon councilors to seriously work in their areas for resolving problems.
Councilors briefed of their problems in their areas who demanded of Mayor to cooperate with them for work in their areas.
